Detailed Description:
Elegant vintage Japanese lacquer-style vanity box featuring a delicate hand-painted floral design inspired by traditional maki-e aesthetics. The exterior has a deep burgundy-black glossy finish decorated with a large gold peony-style flower and flowing red branches with green leaves, creating a refined composition strongly associated with classic Japanese lacquerware design traditions.
The interior is lined with vivid red velvet-style fabric and includes a built-in geometric mirror inside the lid, suggesting the piece was likely intended as a jewelry box, cosmetic box, or vanity accessory.
The decorative technique imitates or incorporates elements of maki-e (蒔絵) — a traditional Japanese lacquer art technique in which designs are created using lacquer and metallic powders such as gold or silver. Maki-e has been one of the most iconic Japanese decorative arts since the Heian period and became especially popular on boxes, writing cases, vanity items, and luxury household objects.
