About the Author

Sanzo Wada (1883–1967) was one of Japan's pioneering color researchers, painters, costume designers, and art directors. In 1927, he founded the Japan Standard Color Association, now known as the Japan Color Research Institute, helping establish modern color studies in Japan.

Beyond his contributions to color science, Wada worked in painting, fashion, theater, and film. In 1954, he won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design for Gate of Hell and was later recognized by the Japanese government as a Person of Cultural Merit.
