Wpc. × Enoshima Aquarium Folding Vinyl Umbrella – Large Aquarium & Jellyfish

The Wpc. × Enoshima Aquarium Folding Vinyl Umbrella is a special collaboration between Japanese rain-goods brand Wpc. and 新江ノ島水族館 (Enoshima Aquarium / Enosui), created to capture the atmosphere of the aquarium in a transparent folding umbrella.

The collection was inspired by the creatures and exhibits of Enoshima Aquarium, turning two very different aquarium scenes into immersive umbrella designs.

Instead of simply printing marine animals on the canopy, the artwork spreads across the transparent surface so that when the umbrella is opened, it feels as though you are looking upward from inside an aquarium tank.

Two designs are available: Morning, Large Aquarium (Blue) and Sleeping, Jellyfish (Navy).

Morning, Large Aquarium – Blue

The Morning, Large Aquarium design is inspired by the Sagami Bay Large Tank, the largest-scale aquarium tank at Enoshima Aquarium.

Its theme is the excitement of the beginning of a new day.

Fish swimming through the large aquarium are arranged dynamically across the transparent canopy, with the design emphasizing the spectacular sardine tornado that is one of the most memorable sights in the aquarium.

The sweeping movement of the fish across the umbrella creates a sense of depth and motion, making the canopy feel almost like a window into the tank.

The blue color palette reinforces the feeling of being surrounded by water, while the transparent polyurethane material allows light to pass through the design.

When viewed from underneath the open umbrella, the surrounding marine life appears overhead, recreating the unusual perspective of looking upward from inside the aquarium.

Sleeping, Jellyfish – Navy

The Sleeping, Jellyfish design takes inspiration from the quiet nighttime atmosphere of Enoshima Aquarium's Jellyfish Fantasy Hall.

Unlike the energetic Large Aquarium design, this version focuses on a peaceful and dreamlike underwater world.

Softly drifting jellyfish are distributed across the transparent canopy, creating an elegant floating effect when the umbrella is opened.

The darker Navy color palette enhances the nighttime theme and gives the umbrella a calm, atmospheric appearance.

The design also features the Wataboshi Jellyfish, a species discovered in the waters around Enoshima, adding a distinctive connection to the aquarium and the local marine environment.

The contrast between transparent sections, deep navy tones and floating jellyfish gives this version an especially幻想的, relaxing appearance while still functioning as an everyday rain umbrella.

Transparent Aquarium-Inspired Canopy

Both designs use a polyurethane transparent canopy, allowing the artwork and the environment beyond the umbrella to remain visible at the same time.

This transparency is an important part of the aquarium concept. Rather than completely blocking the surroundings, the umbrella creates the impression that the illustrated marine life is floating within the space around the user.

The transparent canopy also provides practical visibility while walking in the rain, especially in busy city streets and around stations.

Raindrops on the surface further enhance the underwater atmosphere, adding natural reflections and texture to the aquarium-inspired artwork.

Compact Folding Design

The folding version uses a three-section frame with 50 cm ribs.

When fully opened, the umbrella measures approximately 87 cm in diameter and approximately 53 cm in total length, providing practical everyday rain coverage while remaining compact enough for carrying.

When folded into its storage case, it measures approximately 27 × 8 cm, making it easy to place inside a handbag, backpack or tote.

At approximately 220 g, the umbrella remains light enough for regular commuting, travel and everyday use.

Easy-Open Manual Mechanism

The umbrella uses Wpc.'s easy-open manual folding mechanism.

The frame can be opened and closed smoothly without individually snapping each rib into or out of position, making it quicker to handle when entering trains, cafés, shops or other buildings.

This provides the portability of a folding umbrella without the inconvenience often associated with manually arranging a traditional folding frame.

Durable Fiberglass-Reinforced Frame

Wpc. designs its transparent umbrellas for repeated use rather than treating them as disposable vinyl umbrellas.

Part of the frame uses fiberglass, a material valued for being lightweight, flexible and resistant to breakage.

This helps the umbrella retain the distinctive transparent vinyl-style appearance while providing a more durable structure suitable for everyday use.

Semi-Transparent Pouch-Style Case

A dedicated storage case is included with the folding umbrella.

The case uses a semi-transparent pouch-style design inspired by the appearance of rippling water, complementing the aquarium theme.

Its wider format makes it easier to insert and remove the folded umbrella compared with a narrow traditional umbrella sleeve.

This is particularly useful after the umbrella has been used and may not be perfectly rolled.

A Collaboration Connected to Enoshima Aquarium

The collaboration was created in connection with the 20th anniversaries of both the Wpc. brand and Enoshima Aquarium.

The design focuses on two contrasting moments within the aquarium: the excitement and movement of the large tank in the morning, and the calm, floating atmosphere of jellyfish at night.

The result is more than a simple marine-pattern umbrella. Each design represents a particular aquarium environment and mood.

The collection is suitable for aquarium lovers, marine-life enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys distinctive Japanese rain accessories.
